Kayode Aliyu is a young
talented photographer, Graphic artist and poet who is popularly known as K0ded.

fashion and creativity prompted us to have this interview with him for our
series the Haute9questions which is where we’ll be bringing you short interview
quickies with talents in the Nigerian fashion industry. Here are his answers;
TELL ME ABOUT YOU.
I
am Kayode Olarenwaju Aliyu, I hail from Kwara Nigeria, born into a family of 3
where I am the second born and first son. I lived almost all my life in Lagos
where I did my elementary, primary and secondary school. Currently Studying
Petroleum Engineering at the Federal University Of Petroleum Resources,
Effurum, In Delta State where am pursing my B.Sc.
ABOUT YOUR BRAND K0D3D
*Laughs*
Funny enough, K0D3D is not a brand or somewhat an establishment. It’s my A.K.A.
But
over the years, many people have confused my brands (DOPE WORLD & BLVCK
COMPANY) for K0D3D.
Back
in Junior Secondary School, I used to be a computer freak who loved the act of
just wandering around the system, and even went as far as learning things that
did not concern me (HACKING). So there was this friend of mine that started
calling me CODED from the word CODE = CODING. By the time I finished senior
secondary school there was a need to restructure the name because I just
founded graphics. So I changed CODED to K0D3D, still the same pronunciation but
different spellings and meaning.
The
K was from the first letter of my name, Kayode. 3D being a key branch in
graphics design And the Numeric 0 is still a mystery honestly. So K0D3D
explains me as a person and my passions. But who knows, it might just be a
brand truly tomorrow. *Big Smile*
WHAT DOES BEING A PHOTOGRAPHER MEAN
TO YOU?
Being
a Photographer means to me a way to express myself, it is my second eye and my
interpreter. It is something I do to pass a message across, because I
communicate better with my works than me talking. If this is so, Then Photography
to me is what I need to do to live normally. It’s not just what I want to do. It’s
necessary.
WHEN DID YOU FIRST DEVELOP YOUR
INTEREST IN PHOTOGRAPHY?
I
developed my first interest in photography when I was tired of searching for
pictures that didn’t exist to do my graphics work.
Photography
was never part of the agenda, it wasn’t even listed in my dream but something
came up. I was doing well in graphics until I wanted to step my game up, I gave
myself new challenges, I wanted to create stunning graphic manipulations and I
needed the help of photography. So I started searching for pictures that match
with my imaginations, I couldn’t find. And even if I eventually did find one,
it will cost a lot more and I was only just a student. Imagine I spend $25 to
buy each stock images I used to express myself and I wasn’t earning a dime from
it, Imagine how much will be left for me to use and feed from my allowance. So
I couldn’t cope and my stories were just there lying down waiting to be told.
So I picked up the unprepared for challenge and decided to take these pictures
myself so that I could use them to do my graphics manipulations. That was how I
picked Interest in photography. Only to enter inside the photography world and
I was like WOW! This looks very much like somewhere I can live.
WHAT IS THE FAVOURITE PART OF YOUR
JOB?
The
editing part is my favorite part of photography. Maybe, It’s because am a graphics
designer. I love to sit down and redefine the look of my subject.
WHAT INSPIRES YOUR CREATIVITY?
Most
times I am inspired by Imaginations close to impossibilities. Sometimes I am inspired
by Stories, events, good pictures and reflections then I create something
beautiful out of them.
IF YOU COULD HAVE A SHOOT WITH ANYONE
DEAD OR ALIVE, WHO WOULD IT BE?
*laughs*
seriously? I will shoot anything, I mean anybody, be it dead or alive, be it a
flying or crawling creatures, be it a mermaid or demi god. I’m just kidding but
that’s a tough one.
But
then, I would really love to shoot Angella Phillips the Nigerian Model, Have
seen her works; she has got the potential I want to create a touch of art. Her
fearless body, her physicals, you can even tell a lot of her glimpse from the
way she talks. Yea Angella Phillips It is!
YOU SEEM TO HAVE A LOT OF FANS AS A
POET TOO, WHAT INSPIRES YOUR POEMS?
I
just write those words as they fall from my heart. Most of them are birthed
from reflections, emotions, and whatever will make a man sit and think about
his wrongs and rights.
